Nursi Conference in Philippines

The Risale-I Nur Institute Philippines in coordination with the Commission
on Higher Education-Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (CHEDARMM)
are pleased to invite you to the International Symposium on Justice
that will be held on July 20-21, 2009 at the Xavier Estates Clubhouse,
Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines.

Title:
“The Role of Justice in Building a Better World”

Rationale:
Although throughout history there have been fine examples of social
harmony and cooperation, humanity has never succeeded in freeing itself
from greed, ambition, and the desire for domination , and their resulting
conflict and destruction. In the 20th century, the latter exceeded all bounds
and gave rise to unprecedented savagery. Then, globalization brought with it
changes in both the extent and forms of justice, blatantly legitimizing and
systemizing it. It may be said that now humanity falters uncertainly between
the excessive consumption of the rich North and its associated illnesses, and
the extreme deprivation and resultant illnesses of the poor South.
Clearly, measures taken to rectify and prevent these injustices, which
afflict all areas of human life from the individual to family to country to globe
and environment have been inadequate. There is urgent need for effective
and permanent solutions on both the theoretical and practical levels.
Historically, these have been provided by the religions. Islam, in particular,
and the Holy Qur’an offer principles of establishing and preserving justice in
every area of human life. Islam’s approach to this question is both
comprehensive and practicable .

Objectives:
1. To obtain a firm understanding of the concept of justice –its essence
and dimensions, its importance, functions, and roles in the myriad
aspects of life ; and to search ways and methods of putting it into
practice towards a world consistent with human dignity.
2. To investigate the societal challenges which are rooted to human
injustice, and to recommend alternative systems, programs and steps
towards just and peaceful communities.
Papers and discussions by a distinguished slate of international scholars will
be on the following topics :
1. Justice as basis for lasting peace Mindanao
2. The ontological meaning of the divine name of Justice
3. The place of justice in creation
4. Justice in the context of belief in divine unity, prophethood, and the
hereafter
5. Analysis of justice as a fundamental human right
6. Rational justice and divine justice
7. The relation between justice and worship
8. Worldly justice and other-worldly justice
9. The relation between justice and ethics
10. The relation between justice and politics
11. The place and importance of justice in human relations
12. The social, political and economical dimension of justice
13. International relation in the light of the principle of justice
14. The relation between law, force and justice
